How much oil should I use?

A few drops across the blade teeth, run the clipper briefly, then wipe off the excess. Flooding the blade just throws oil onto the client.

When should I oil?

Before and after every client at minimum, and always after cleaning or disinfecting a blade. Water left on steel is what causes rust.

Can I use another oil instead?

Use a proper clipper oil. Household oils are too heavy or too volatile and will gum up a blade or evaporate off it.
