The Wahl 5 Star Vapor Switch is a cord/cordless clipper built around a HyperShift 2-Speed Motor you switch between fading and bulk removal, backed by Adaptive Speed Control that adjusts output as hair density changes under the blade. Which speed is which?

7,000 RPM is the fading and detailing mode and 9,000 RPM is bulk removal. Some distributor listings print this the other way round — they are wrong. The 3.5-hour runtime figure is quoted at 7,000 RPM, which confirms it is the lower-draw mode.

What does Adaptive Speed Control actually do?

It monitors load and adjusts motor output as hair density and texture change. In practice it means the clipper holds its speed moving from a thin temple into a dense crown rather than dragging.

What is the difference between click and no-click?

Click gives you five locking taper positions you can return to exactly — useful when you are matching one side of a head to the other. No-click lets the lever travel freely for smoother blending. Same lever, no tools to switch.

Is the F32 blade the same as the one on the original 5 Star Vapor?

Both tools use an F32-family adjustable balding blade, but the Vapor Switch is specified with the Drift F32 with integrated oil grooves. If you are replacing a blade, order for the Vapor Switch specifically rather than assuming they cross over.

Can I run it plugged in?

Yes — it is a cord/cordless clipper, so a flat battery does not end your day.

How does it compare to the standard 5 Star Vapor?
