Derby's step up from the Extra — sharper edge, longer life.
Derby Premium double edge blades are Swedish stainless steel with a chromium-ceramic, tungsten and platinum coating plus a polymer edge treatment. Derby positions Premium above their Extra line: sharper, closer, longer lasting. Made in Turkey by Azmusebat, who have been making blades since the 1940s. A hundred blades arrive as 20 dispensers of 5, each blade individually wrapped in wax paper.
- Sharper and longer-lasting than Derby Extra — the reason to pay the difference.
- Multi-layer coating: chromium-ceramic, tungsten and platinum, plus a polymer edge.
- Twenty five-blade dispensers means you stock a station without opening the whole hundred.
- Individually wrapped, so a dropped dispenser is not a hundred loose blades.
- Both edges are usable — flip the blade rather than binning it.

Questions Barbers Ask
How is Premium different from Derby Extra?
Sharper edge, closer shave, longer life — Derby's own positioning. Extra is the everyday blade; Premium is the step up. You can tell them apart on the shelf: Premium comes in black packaging.
Is this the same as the Derby Premium single edge?
No, and this catches people out. Derby makes a Premium single edge blade too — that is a different product for a different razor. This one is double edge. Check which your razor takes before ordering.
Can I use these in a shavette?
Yes, but you snap the blade in half along its centre score and load one half. A whole DE blade does not fit a shavette. Shavettes built for single-edge blades will not take a DE blade at all.
What razors take a full blade?
Any standard double edge safety razor — three-piece, two-piece or butterfly.
How many shaves per blade?
That depends entirely on beard density and how you strop your technique. In a shop, most barbers change per client regardless — which is the only correct answer for sanitation.
Why Barbers Love It
Blades are the cheapest thing in the service and the most obvious when they are wrong. A hundred-pack of a genuinely sharp blade costs less than a bad shave costs you.
About Derby
Derby blades are made by Azmusebat in Turkey, a manufacturer that started as an ironmongery wholesaler in the 1940s before moving into blades.
