Which round size do I reach for?

Smaller barrels create more bend, larger barrels create more smoothing and volume with less curl. On short and mid-length men's hair the 33 mm and 43 mm do most of the work, with the 53 mm for longer styles and blowouts.

Why boar bristle alongside tourmaline?

They do different jobs. Boar hair drags natural oil down the hair shaft and adds shine, tourmaline reduces static and frizz. Mixing them gets you both without needing two brushes.
