Will this fit an FX870 or FXF880?

No. BaBylissPRO lists the FX903G for the FXX3C, the FX3 clipper. The FX870 series and FXF880 take the two-hole FX802G taper blade instead.

What does the flat elongated surface change?

It gives you more blade in contact when the clipper is held vertical, which is the position you work in when you are flicking a fade line up out of the skin. A crescent taper blade is built for a rocking motion instead.

Is DLC worth paying for over plain steel?

Diamond-like carbon is much harder and much slicker than bare steel. In a shop that means the blade holds its edge longer and generates less heat. On a machine you use every day, that difference is real.
