How often should I oil?

Multiple times a day. Andis recommends frequent application — most barbers oil at the start of the day, between clients and before the tool goes away.

Where exactly does the oil go?

Three drops across the cutting teeth, one at each end and one in the middle, with the clipper running. Wipe the excess so it does not collect hair.

Can I use household oil instead?

No. Household and cooking oils gum up, attract hair and can damage the blade. Clipper oil is a light mineral oil formulated not to leave residue.
