An actual exam-grade glove, for the services where that matters.

Ambitex N400 Series are 3 mil powder-free nitrile examination gloves in royal blue, X-Large, 100 to the box. They are FDA 510(k)-cleared patient examination gloves — not a general-purpose glove with medical-sounding copy — and Tradex states they comply with 21 CFR Parts 170-199 for use in contact with food.

  • Exam-grade credential: 510(k) cleared under K141304, FDA product code LZA. That is the standard that matters for shave services and any bloodborne-pathogen exposure.
  • Fingertip texturing gives grip on a wet razor or a slippery bottle without losing feel.
  • Powder-free, so no glove powder transferring onto a client's face during a shave.
  • Latex-free nitrile — no latex allergy risk for you or the client.
  • Beaded cuff resists rolling down when you are pulling gloves on in a hurry.
  • Food-contact compliant, which covers the incidental contact side of shop work.

Questions Barbers Ask

What is the difference between an exam glove and a regular disposable glove?

An examination glove is a regulated medical device — it has to clear FDA review and meet defined standards for strength and pinhole rate. A general-purpose disposable glove has no such requirement. For a shave service, or anything where you might contact blood, the exam glove is the one you want.

Is it FDA approved?

Cleared, not approved — and the distinction is real. Class I examination gloves go through 510(k) premarket notification, which is a clearance. Anyone telling you a glove is "FDA approved" is using the wrong word.

Are they chemo or fentanyl rated?

No. Tradex publishes no chemotherapy or fentanyl permeation data for the N400, so we are not going to imply one exists. If you need a chemo-rated glove, buy a glove specifically tested to ASTM D6978.

Why only X-Large?

That is the size we stock. The N400 series runs XS through XL under part numbers NXS400, NSM400, NMD400 and NLG400 — ask us if you need another size and we will look at bringing it in.

What does "100 gloves by weight" mean?

Standard practice for nitrile. Boxes are filled to a target weight rather than hand-counted, so the count is nominal. Every manufacturer does this.

Why Barbers Love It

Most shops buy the cheapest glove on the shelf and then reach for it during a straight-razor shave. This is the one that is actually rated for that, and it is a couple of dollars a box more.
