Rising star and Talented barber, photographer remembered

Dozens of people gathered in northwest Baltimore, Maryland Saturday to honor a local barber and photographer recently killed.

Kenny “Bean” Whitley, 33, was shot and killed on Dolfield Avenue in northwest Baltimore earlier in the week. A motive remains unclear.

Kennybean is well known for his sharp cuts and great eye for photography throughout the barbering industry. He definitely was a rising star and will be greatly missed in our community.

He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Morgan State University, and attended Edmondson Westside High School.

Saturday’s vigil was held outside his home.

“I’m so overwhelmed, amazed and just so thankful that he has so many friends and they’re showing their love today,” said Catherine Whitley, Whitley’s mother. “He was my only son and now all of the sudden I have a whole lot of sons because of him.”

Catherine Whitley stressed the violence in the city must stop.

Anyone with any information on this case is asked to contact Baltimore Police at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
